Newsletter #7 - March 6, 2026

Let’s not get carried away, but yesterday was a good day and showed the importance of organizing and making our voices heard.  The firing of Kristi Noem as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security reflects the hard work by protesters around the country, particularly in Minnesota, that made her vulnerable to her disastrous two days of hearings before Congress within the last several days.

Why not get carried away?  First, because even when Trump fired her, he ignored much of her worst abuses of power and failure to properly manage DHS.  Ben Meiselas and Meidastouch Network summarized what happened well in their Thursday afternoon report:

Not because her agency killing multiple Americans on the streets. Not her disastrous handling of FEMA during natural disasters. Not her reported affair with Corey Lewandowski. Not her firing a member of the Coast Guard because he forgot to take her “blanky” off her plane.  Not because she didn’t deploy the Urban Search and Rescue teams for more than 72 hours after floods struck Texas. Not for admitting she killed her dog, Cricket. And I could go on and on and on… But rather, the final straw was her saying that it was Trump’s idea to spend over $200 million on commercials that she starred in.

Second, there’s no reason to think that Noem’s firing will make a substantive difference and that her successor, Senator Markwayne Mullin will be any better.  Senator Mullin can be expected to follow the same directives from Trump and Stephen Miller as Noem did and to be as obedient to the President as a cabinet member as he was as a senator.

CWI is part of a nationwide group of Indivisible chapters and many other organizations fighting to protect our rights and to stop and reverse the Trump administration’s damage to the United States and the rest of the world.   This newsletter describes some of the actions you can take.

Locally, CWI still plans to hold its first general membership meeting on or about March 22.  We’ll provide details in a future newsletter.  For now, please help as we plan both that meeting and our future goals and the actions that will be discussed at that meeting.  For our planning purposes, it would be very helpful if you could tell us whether you expect to attend the meeting so we have an idea how large a room we’ll need.  If you’re interested in helping, or to send a tentative RSVP,  please contact us at our email account, cwindivisible@gmail.com.   To help us monitor those emails, please include the work “attending” in the subject line.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Please see below. And, as usual, we request that you provide us with information to include in future newsletters.  You can do so by sending an email with the pertinent information to our email account.  Please include the word "Event" in the email subject, so we know what to expect.

Also, please see our new website.  We are going to do our best to keep you informed through the newsletter, the website and additional emails as necessary.

If you want to contribute to CWI, we’ve now made it easy for you.  Just click here to contribute to our work organizing right here in Central Westchester and make it possible for us to make a difference on state and federal issues.

EVENTS

First, our first CWI rally!  It will take place from 1-2 pm on Sunday, March 15, at Webb Park in Hartsdale, also known as Richard Presser Park (206 - 210 N. Central Avenue).  Subject to whatever new horrible actions come out of the White House before then, we anticipate focusing on ICE and the war in Iran.  We are looking forward to seeing many of you there.  For our planning, please send us a tentative RSVP telling us whether you expect to attend.  PLEASE NOTE: We need people to volunteer as rally monitors (aka rally marshals) in order to help keep our rallies joyful, safe and successful. If you are interested in being a rally monitor, please contact us at cwindivisible@gmail.com and we’ll send you training materials and additional information.

Second, CWI is continuing to actively plan our local No Kings rally on Saturday, March 28, in the parking lot at Greenburgh Town Hall 177 Hillside Avenue in Greenburgh from 10-11 am.  That should give you plenty of time to join us in Greenburgh and then many of us at the Tarrytown rally from 12-2 pm.  Please contact us at cwindivisible@gmail.com if you want to be a rally monitor or to otherwise help us make a major statement right here in Central Westchester.  Again, for planning purposes it would be helpful if you could give us a tentative RSVP and, if positive, how many people you expect to come with you. If you need transportation to the rally, please tell us and we’ll try to arrange a ride for you.

Third, please see upcoming Indivisible activities at https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/889837/.

Fourth, please see additional No Kings rallies at https://www.nokings.org/?SQF_SOURCE=indivisible%23map.  It’s not yet complete; in fact our Greenburgh rally has not yet been added to the map.

Fifth, on March 10, Moms Demand Action, Everytown and their partners will hold their 2026 Advocacy Day in Albany  - see their description of the event below:

Join New York Moms Demand Action, Students Demand Action, Survivors and Partners in Albany for our 2026 Advocacy Day as we rally and meet with legislators to promote common sense gun laws! No experience necessary! Further logistical information, including carpools and exact legislator meeting times, will be provided to those who RSVP. Sign up to find out more, even if you can only attend a portion of the day. Wear red and join us to advocate for a New York free from gun violence!

To register, please click here.

Sixth, from the Campaign for New York Health, please see the following about health care lobbying opportunities.

The profit motive in healthcare drives up costs, harms patients, and wastes billions. For less than we already pay, New York could guarantee universal, comprehensive care by cutting out profit-seeking middlemen. As federal healthcare cuts kick in—doubling the uninsured, closing hospitals, and spiking premiums—New York can fight back by passing the New York Health Act and putting care over profit.

The CNYH Capital Region Healthcare Hub will be at the Capital each week this session to lobby our State legislators.

Eighth, Melting ICE Locally

CD16/15 has a very active Immigration Committee. The following slide deck explains what is entailed in doing “Know Your Rights” community work to help advocate for our neighbors who are being targeted, as well as describes the community network and actions being taken in the Riverdale-Kingsbridge section of NYCD15. You can review the slide deck to get the gist of it.

An immediate way to help out locally is to make a donation to Yonkers Sanctuary Movement; they are doing invaluable work and need all the assistance we can give them. You can also help them with their nonperishable goods wishlist. Go here to learn more.

Ninth, Immigration

NY State Actions:  Contact your state Senators Find My Senator | NYSenate.gov, Assembly members, and Governor Hochul (518-474-8390) to pass and enact NY4All which protects our communities by prohibiting state and local resources from being diverted to ICE and federal authorities in most cases. NYS must refuse to carry out an inhumane mass deportation and detention agenda. Info at Take Action: New York for All - NYC, Long Island, New York State | New York Immigration Coalition - Revision

Federal (Congress) Actions:   Stop ICE funding at the Federal level: Demand our Senators hold firm on funding restrictions without controls on ICE. You may also ask for a "Clawback" of previous ICE funding in the "big beautiful bill".. Sen. Schumer 202-224-6542 and Sen. Gillibrand 202-224-4451 daily. Look here for the script. Call your Congressmember as well. Thank Rep. Latimer for his support.

Tenth, Voting

And while you're calling Congress, also tell them to defeat the SAVE Act, which will make it more difficult to vote for millions of Americans, and force states to share their voter rolls with the Federal government. New SAVE Act Bills Would Still Block Millions of Americans From Voting | Brennan Center for Justice

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING YOU’RE ALREADY DOING.  LET’S CONTINUE TO STAND TOGETHER TO MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD!
